Spring is Here!
The daffodils, tulips and kale are almost done, we spotted orcas from the Quadra Island ferry and the Spirit of the West summer crew has just completed our 5-day guide training at our base camp in Johnstone Strait. We have so much news to share, we hope you enjoy the update from the coast. We hope you too are managing to enjoy some sunshine and warmer temperatures wherever you may be.

Spirit of the West and the Salmon
This spring we've been helping raise funds for Salmon and their advocates. Recently Spirit of the West donated a Johnstone Strait Expedition Tour to raise funds for Alexandra Morton and her crew of dedicated volunteers who continue to tirelessly advocate on behalf of wild salmon and the health of the coast.
The work is never done of course, so now we'd like to do more: Like us on Facebook and we'll donate $1 to the Save our Salmon Foundation (to July 1st or a maximum of $1500).
Spirit of the West Adventures is also a member of 1% for the Planet which sees us donate 1% of all sales to non-profit environmental organizations. To date this has been over $15,000 dollars in donations. Please support businesses who are 1% for the Planet members and keep your purchases working for the earth. View our 1% for the Planet profile.
New for 2011
"Orca Lite" our new 4 day tour to Johnstone Strait - only $795
Orca Lite is simply about giving you the orca kayaking experience at price that is easy on the pocketbook while maintaining the high standards you expect from a Spirit of the West kayak tour. This will mean a few less frills than our Johnstone Strait Ultimate tour, and a shorter length than our Johnstone Strait Expedition. You will still have the best trained guides on the coast, top-of-the-line gear, industry leading pre and post trip service and most importantly, plenty of fun and adventure! More...
Greenland Kayaking Tour
Yep, you heard us right: Spirit of the West will be offering a tour to East Greenland this August! Greenland is living kayak history and an unbelievable area for paddling. This trip will blend kayaking at the tongues of glaciers and icebergs with some day hikes exploring the tundra to fully experience all that the arctic has to offer. This stunning landscape will keep us in awe, all the while we will keep our eyes scanning the waters for narwhal, seals, walrus and of course polar bears. For those with an intermediate level of experience, please call the office and speak with Rick. This tour will be lead by Rick Snowdon, owner of Spirit of the West and head guide, who also has a passion for all things arctic. More...
Kayak with Us in the Bahamas
There's also a passion for warm places here in the office, preferably with palm trees. Breanne, Spirit of the West co-owner, hopes to offer an exploratory kayaking tour to the Bahamas this winter. Join Spirit of the West for a warm weather adventure this January. If you are interested in learning more, please send us an email or give us a call and we will add you to our email list for warm weather adventures.
Chilean Patagonia 2012
We just can't get enough of this stunning part of the world. This is truly a wild and remote kayaking journey, blended with the creature comforts of a warm and dry boat to return to each night. This is mothership kayaking at its best. The 2011 tours to Chile were a smashing success with excellent wildlife sightings including blue whales and penguins, amazing paddling locations including at the foot of a glacier, great food and wine and of course we got to share this with the lovely company of our incredible guests. Click here to see our photo album to see pictures from this year's adventures (warning, these photos will make you want to kayak in Chile!).
Join us this February and March for kayaking in Patagonia. Book before September 1st and save $500 off the cost of the tour.
Have Spirit of the West over for Dinner
Ever thought about how you would like to bring a group of friends or family on a kayaking tour? Well if you arrange a group of folks, we would be happy to come for dinner and answer any questions you may have. Of course we love to travel, but probably won't be able to travel to all of your homes around the world, so as second best, how about a virtual presence? We will use the magic of the internet and Skype to join you in your home via computer connection. You name the time and place and we will be there.
Chickens Can't Kayak!
No, a chicken in a kayak would not be a good idea, but we do love fresh eggs. So we compromised and built our chickens a lovely little chicken mansion here on Quadra Island. We hope to keep some happy chickens who will be so kind to provide us with farm-fresh, organic eggs for our tours and baking. Click here to see pictures of the chicken mansion (coop).
