Write a letter
Having our past guests write a letter to our provincial government will be our most effective way to stop the proposed logging surrounding the Johnstone Strait Ultimate Base Camp. It is important to let our government officials know that the visual impact of clear cuts surrounding our camp is not acceptable to people visiting our camp.
A single letter is considered equivalent to many people's actual opinions and is taken very seriously by the government.
Note: Please cc us a copy of your letter so we can also present them to our ministers in person.
Mail your letter to:
Hon. Patrick Bell
Minister of Tourism, Jobs and Innovation
Room 138, Parliament Buildings
Victoria, BC V8V 1X4
Tips on writing a letter
- State what the Johnstone Strait area means to you, particularly your trip to the Spirit of the West Adventures Base Camp.
- Ask Premier Christy Clark and the Hon. Patrick Bell, Minister of Tourism, Jobs and Innovation, to stop the proposed logging surrounding the Johnstone Strait Ultimate Base camp in Boat Bay, West Cracroft Island.
- Use your own reasons.
- Request a reply.

Honourable Patrick Bell;
I am writing to express my concern over the proposed logging in the Boat Bay area of Johnstone Strait, British Columbia, in particular blocks 2-806, 2-804 and 2-802, which are part of TimberWest’s Tree Farm License #47 on West Cracroft Island.
I know this region because I joined one of Spirit of the West Adventures' base camp kayaking tours located in Boat Bay. The reason I selected this tour was because of the high scenic value, wilderness feeling and magnificent wildlife viewing. If it were to be logged it would no longer be attractive to me as a world class tourist destination as it is today.
I ask you to please remove cut blocks 2-806, 2-804 and 2-802 on West Cracroft Island from the proposed logging in this area. I also feel it important that any future logging activity in the area is restricted to areas that are not visible from the water.
If you truly believe that it is important to offer visitors from around the world a high quality wilderness experience then the visual qualities of this area should be protected.
I look forward to your reply and to hearing that the visible logging in this area has been stopped.
Kind regards,

I know this region because I work in this area as a guide, showing off to tourists the scenery and wildlife that this area is known for.
The western Johnstone Strait region, and in particular the Boat Bay area on West Cracroft Island, is an incredible and unique area. It should be protected from further logging because my job depends on the high scenic value and wilderness aesthetic that this region provides to the thriving tourism industry. There are very few places left on the coast were the visual impact of logging cannot already been seen.
I ask you to please remove cut blocks 2-806, 2-804 and 2-802 on West Cracroft Island from the proposed logging in this area. I also feel it important that any future logging activity in the area is restricted to areas that are not visible from the water. The marine tourism industry in this region provides millions in revenues and employs hundreds of people and should be protected.
I look forward to your reply and to hearing that the visible logging in this area has been stopped.
