Learn more about our base camp in Johnstone Strait.
Spirit of the West Adventures is fortunate to have the most beautiful
base camp location in Johnstone Strait. We were the first sea kayaking
company to offer this style of tour in the Strait and therefore were
able to choose the perfect location. It is difficult to describe just
how picturesque our camp is without actually being there in person,
but I hope the following photos and descriptions may help.

All our tents are 4 person North Face tents that we generally
use for two people. You will find them to be very spacious and
comfortable.
|
 |
These dome tents are set on red cedar platforms milled from drift
wood that had floated up on Quadra Islands shore.

To get to the kayak beach from our camp you will walk a short
distance through a magical forest trail. The steps shown here,
made from beach drift wood, leads up to our camp. Along the path
to the beach, you will pass by the trail leading to the beach
side shower and outhouse.

This is the gathering place with the hot drinks bar and serving
counter. The scope shown hear is permanently set up for wildlife
viewing. The speakers are hooked up to an amplifier powered by
solar power. The amplifier picks up the sound of the Killer Whales
if they they are to pass within 1 mile of camp.

 |
A campfire completes the atmosphere. There is no better place
to meet new friends, laugh, tell stories and play music, than
around the camp fire. We have an endless supply of driftwood that
washes up on our beach so no need to go far for fire wood.

Our food is always fresh, healthy and tasty. Our first nights
meal is a wild salmon BBQ, however for those who don't eat fish
we are always able to cater to any dietary restriction. There
is always a vegetarian option for all our meals.
Hot drinks and cold drinks are available all day with drinking
water available 24/7.
The aluminum box in the back ground is called a bear box. Keeping
a clean camp is crucial. We have been bear free for the 9 years
of operating here..
