Nuchatlitz Expedition: 6 day kayak tour

The Nuchatlitz tour departs from the town of Gold River on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. The Spirit of the West van will be departing from Quadra Island and Campbell River on the morning of the tour, and drive the 2 hours to Gold River. If you are traveling without a vehicle and need transportation to Gold River, just let us know and we can help make arrangements.

Day Prior: If you are unable to check in at our office on Quadra Island, please call us the day before to confirm the exact departure time and location, and if there are any last minute details.

Day 1: This is our travel day. We will leave Quadra Island and Campbell River late in the morning and arrive in Tahsis by about 1pm. We will then meet our water taxi and transfer out to the Nuchatlitz where we will find our first nights camp and ready our selves for the next mornings paddle. If you need a ride with our van to Tahsis we will need to know this in advance. We are limited on how many people can come with us so priority will be given to people who do not have their own transport.

Day 2 - 5: On the Nuchatlitz tour there is no set itinerary, as we have plenty of time to explore. The route will depend on weather conditions and the groups desires. Our days will be spent exploring the picturesque islands, lagoons, sea caves hidden behind cascading waterfalls, and possibly a visit to the ancient burial caves of the Nuchalnulth peoples. We will also take some time out for walks, beach combing, or simply lounging and absorbing the magnificent surroundings. If we are fortunate we will end our day with one of our famous West Coast sunsets.

Day 6: This is our last day to enjoy the marine environment of the West Coast. After our morning paddle and lunch, our boat transport will pick us up and take us back to Gold River. Approximate return time to Campbell River is 7pm.

Accommodations while on tour

On the expeditoin style tours we camp in a variety of scenic settings from forest groves to oceanside beaches. Most sites are rustic non established camps, which is what gives you the sense of really being out in the wilderness. The camps are generally set up with tent sites, a mobile kitchen set up, tarped sitting area area, and allocated toilet areas (note there are very few toilet facilities on our tours, so your guides will suggest an appropriate area and system). We provide high quality expedition style tents, along with comfortable air inflatable thermarest sleeping mats that should make you feel right at home. Most often we have enough tents to accommodate both singles and couples with their own abode for the trip. If by chance we have lots of single participants on a tour we may need to match up folks (as we are limited to how many tents we can fit in our kayaks). We will do our best to match you up with a suitable partner.
